Week 3:
managing IS infrastructure and services
During the lecture, Mr Haidar has taught us about the Components
of an IS structure
The IS infrastructure allows processing, storage and scnding
data:
·
Hardware and software
·
Network
Systems software v application software
System software controls the basic operations of hardware
Computer networking
Computer networking, sharing information and services. Communications
include senders and receivers. A transmission medium is used to send data through
either a cable or wireless.
Issues with managing IS structure
An increase in technology caused; storage needs and energy
consumption as well as demand fluctuations.
Software obsolescence
Big companies like Microsoft keeps on creating and developing
better software every 90 days. New operating systems mostly require hardware
for its full function. Older software are often not compatible with new
advanced software.
Many products are designed to last for specific amount of
time before they are replaced which means that companies are always seeking the
best time to upgrade.
In the seminar, Susie had made us do an excel activity using
different formulas and different numbers. For example: if the monthly cost of a
moisturiser increased by 4%, how much would the new figure be.
We have also worked in groups we grouped up with classmates
and presented some information about IS
