Week 1
For the first lecture of MIS, Haidar Bilal has taught us about
the various challenges organisations in the 21st century
experiences.
The first part of the lecture consisted of informing us about
how to utilise TurnItIn (the coursework software), how to know the submission
dates, and the content of each coursework and so on and so forth.
The three waves of change
These are theories created by engineers to explain phases of
changes.

First wave: based on agriculture and hard work, primitive
stage.

Second wave: industrial revolution, began late 18th
century and lasted over 100 years.
·
Third wave: information age.
Information systems today:
The correct information at the right time to the right people
is essential.
Knowledge society: leveraging information and creative value
with information.
The knowledge worker.

Data: the root and purpose of information system

Information systems: people. Hardware, software, data
and telecommunications networks

Data: input with no meaning

Information: data that has been given a meaning

Knowledge: ability to understand information and make
decisions and predictions.
